Overlook this application's gaudy interface, and you'll find a helpful deleted-file-recovery tool. MyPlayCity Data Recovery's cartoon interface won't cut it in a business environment, but the commands are easy to find and implement. Most users won't even need to bother reading the simple help file.

MyPlayCity Data Recovery is drive-oriented. Pick the disk you want to scan and simply choose a file mask. One click and off you go into another interface. This one is also cartoon-like, but the folder tree and file list is very familiar. Your only option is the recovery folder, which simplifies the process. You can search through the list, easily preview a single file, or recover selected files. During our tests, the program performed well, though some files were misidentified. The preview function is a simple text viewer. Don't expect it to play music files or movies. From this interface you can also easily wipe found files.

At installation, you're sent to the publisher's Web site, and numerous links to game sites are added to your start menu. However unprofessional it appears, MyPlayCity Data Recovery does a decent job of recovering deleted files. As freeware, it makes a good first tool to use when searching for that recently deleted file.

"Very simple interface but extremely good, recovers anything"

Pros: I lost a word file on my memory stick and this program found it first try and recovered it. I tried several other recovery programs but they all seemed to have trouble actually recovering the file. This little program did not.

Cons: I don't like the interface, could be made a little more adult like however, it works
