MusicBrainz Picard is a free MP3 file tagger that can identify track information by comparing an audio tracks unique digital thumbprint to the information in the MusicBrainz database. It is based on a tagging concept that is organized around album or release information for groups of tracks (and will identify individual tracks within that framework). This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.

  Checks your files for wrong file names for FREE

  Pros: This thing actually uses fingerprinting technology and uploads the first few seconds of each song to its database, and checks it to see if its the right name

  Cons: This does what it says for free.

  Pros: If U want/need ur music collection 2 B tagged/organized correctly, then this is a great way 2 start

  Cons: Doesn't recognize all songs, but thats a minor gripe in comparison 2 its efficiency

  when you copy your LPs onto your PC and split it into tracks tags it

  Needs some hands on approach, but otherwise great

  Pros: It does what it says - finds your tracks for you, and tries its best to find a match, fills up all the blanks and even has the precise dates down.

  It also has a simple interface and only takes a few minutes to get used to.

  Cons: Sometimes its best match is incorrect, so you yourself needs to find out what the correct albums are (since it usually matches the songs to compilation albums instead of individual singers' albums).

  While tagging the songs, it does not rename it correctly (eg: remove hyphens or underscores) and so I had to run it through another software to rename my songs according to its tags (I use media monkey - also a great software)

  Takes some time for it to analyse the tracks, but otherwise sure beats manual tagging of the songs.

  I'd say that the pros outweigh the cons, and thus makes it a good program to download.
