Multiplicity lets you easily control several desktop machines or laptops with a single mouse and keyboard. This app offers a perfect solution for Web designers, programmers, and most gamers.

Pros

Easy to configure and set up: It takes only a couple minutes to set up EdgeRunner Multiplicity. To use Multiplicity, install it on all machines you would like to connect. Use a switch in the upper-right corner to designate each computer as primary or secondary. The app automatically scans and locates all available machines on your wireless network and lets you connect to them. It also assigns a passcode to your secondary machine, which will let you connect to it.

Intuitive interface: This app features a sleek, easy-to-use, grayish interface. You can toggle between general settings, KVM mode, hot-key settings, and audio-sharing features using the buttons on the right, and you can position computers on the main graphical grid for seamless control. The grid size is easily adjustable from 3x3 to 7x7.

Seamless remote experience: Once set, this app allows you to use one keyboard and mouse for multiple machines. Drag and drop and copy/paste actions are supported as well.

Full-featured demo version: Before you have to decide whether to purchase this app, you can test it without any limitations for 30 days. Just provide a valid email address and activate your account, which takes less than a minute.

Cons

Possible system incompatibility: If you're running machines that use the same OS (such as Windows 7), then you'll have no trouble using Multiplicity. However, if you're using two different OSs, you might encounter some incompatibility issues.

Not suitable for games that use an aiming cursor: Even though this app performed well during nearly all of our tests, we found it to be buggy when we tried using it in a game where we needed to aim with the cursor.

Bottom Line

Multiplicity combines ease of use, sleek design, and great functionality. It's geared for power users and anyone else who needs to use multiple screens or to control more machines with a single mouse and keyboard. It may not work well for gamers, but for others it's a handy tool to have.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of EdgeRunner Multiplicity 3.0.
