For run-of-the-mill conversion, MpegSoft Video Convert can do the job, but the program is no standout. The start-up dialog box isn't the best introduction; it serves only as an advertisement, as far as we could tell. The Mac OS-style interface could be handier, too. It isn't possible to quickly add several files since you must go through the same Options dialog box for each one. Nor can you preview videos before you convert them, only afterward. You can, however, right-click a file to see its properties--for example, video and audio codecs used and frame rate. MpegSoft Video Convert enables you to change TV system (from NTSC to PAL), frame rate, and picture size. In our testing, we had trouble converting AVI to MPEG, but our PC configuration may have been the problem. If you only need to convert a few movies, MpegSoft Video Convert will suit you.
