Mac OS 9.0.4 is the latest update for the Macintosh operating system for all computers that are compatible with Mac OS 9. It provides additional FireWire and USB support, enhances networking and power management, and improves audio, video, and graphics functionality.

Note: After installing Mac OS 9.0.4 on an iMac DV (Slot Loading), Power Mac G4, or PowerBook (FireWire) computers, it is necessary to install Apple DVD Player 2.2.

Palm users: This update interferes with the Palm desktop and prevents HotSyncing between your Palm organizer and desktop Mac. For more information refer to the Palm inc. site.

"DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME IF YOU THINK THIS WILL GIVE YOU OS 9.0 AND THEN UPDATE IT"

Cons: IT IS MISLEADING TO STATE THIS DOWNLOAD WILL WORK WITH OS 8.X!!!! YOU NEED OS 9.0 ALREADY MOUNTED TO USE IT--WHY DON'T YOU PEOPLE CORRECT THIS? DOES ANYBODY THERE READ THESE COMMENTS? IF YOU REALLY WANT TO HELP THE MAC COMMUNITY POST OS 9.0 FOR A FREE DOWNLOAD, EH?

Summary: The front page with the download for Mac OS 9.0.4 indicates it is valid for updating from system 8.x, but it isn't (of course, I was silly to think it might be
