A timer within the Kidz Protection program allows access to other software programs for a limited time if you wish. This function is ideal whenever a parent is around to supervise the use of these programs.

This free parental tool offers effective management of Internet-based communication programs, but lacks features for adding programs to its predetermined program listings.
Sporting a sleek, well-designed interface, Kidz Protection Software Manager primarily restricts e-mail clients, P2P programs, chat software, and browsers from connecting to the Internet. You'll appreciate the preloaded catalogs of popular Internet communication programs, including Outlook, LimeWire, MSN Messenger, Firefox, Mozilla, Internet Explorer, and many more. Kidz Protection Software Manager is password protected, and you can disable the task manager or the program itself for a user-specified amount of time. Sadly, users can still remove this application without the password from the add/remove list in the control panel. Also, it would've been great if options to add more programs to its list were given. While it doesn't have the muscle of similar tools in its class, its user-friendliness and streamlined effort to protect kids from inappropriate Web content are favorable.

Version: Kidz Protection - Software Manager 1.2
"Does everything necessary, yet simple"
Pros: I needed to find an inexpensive and not-too-technical solution to keep certain computers on the network from connecting to the Internet for a non profit with 20 computers. I wanted the solution to be easy enough that with a click, the computer could be back on the Internet again. Since we have a mixed bag of XP Home and XP Profession Operating Systems, the answer wasn't a simple one for all computers. Unfortunately, some of our clients have just enough computer knowledge to be dangerous, and previous attempts to keep them off the Internet were gotten around. This program cannot be gotten around. Even though the editor's review states that the program can be uninstalled in control panal, with administrative rights set, this program cannot be uninstalled. Best of all, the price is free, which fits into this 501(c)(3)'s budget. I was also impressed with the fact that it not only stops Internet browser programs from executing, but also chat and email programs. So far, the program has worked like a charm.
