Publisher's description of KidSurf Child Safe Web Browser
From Decision Support:
KidSurf is a fun, easy-to-use Internet browser software designed especially for kids 3 to 8 years old. KidSurf is a great new way to keep your kids safe while on the Internet. After downloading and installing KidSurf, your child will only have access to sites you choose pop-up menus and unwanted links are blocked, helping to keep your kids safe from unwanted Internet content. And, all of the confusing Internet Explorer options are hidden from view, ensuring that your children won't accidentally click on links that are not meant for them and be lost. Up to 4 children can have their own 'smiley face' menu. So each child can have their own independent set of favorite sites. For Parents, KidSurf includes an option to add password protection so kids cannot return to the computer's desktop. It also includes a timer to limit internet usage.
Version 2.05 includes unspecified updates.

KidSurf Child Safe Web Browser
Great piece of software

Pros: I have kids. Kids who like to visit sites like Hot Wheels and Barbie. The question was how to let them do it safely. Do I sit with them and watch their every move? Or, do I download one of those monitoring programs that works within my browser? Well, I would like to use the free time (while they are occuppied on the net) to do other things and those monitoring programs, while they do a great job can really get on my nerves when I get back on my browser. The solution? Get the kids their own web browser.
This program is absolutely fantastic. It is a snap to set up and configure. I love the option of not being able to close the browser without a password (not only does it protect the kids from the net but protects my PC from misplaced keystrokes and mouse clicks).
I have been browsing free software for a long time now and there is one, only one, that I am prepared to donate money to (which you can do via Paypal here btw). That program is KidSurf.
Cons: Too bad the ratings only go up to 5. There is poor software, good software, and great software. Then, there is KidSurf! Well done!

Excellent product! Easy to use and safe!

Pros: My kids have been using KidSurf since it came out. They really enjoy it because it allows them to access their games with one click of the mouse. My wife and I don't have to worry when we see they're on KidSurf as we've never experienced an ounce of trouble with it! It's something every family with small children should use. It gives the parents piece of mind and gives the children a chance to safely play their favorite computer games while learning about using a computer! A win/win.

KidSurf Child Safe Web Browser
KidSurf Browser great for Special Needs Children

Pros: The KidSurf browser has been wonderful for use by my autistic son. Set up was lightening fast even with the addition of new site options, operation is simple and there are no distracting extras to frustrate him. I feel confident when letting him use the broswer on his own (autistic children often like to do things themselves and computer time serves as an awesome reward for hard work.) He is four.
Cons: The software works great. Future versions could benefit by
1. allowing removal of additional children profiles. For those of us that only have one kid the extra profiles can be confusing for our children.
2. ad blocking. While children's sites usually have "clean" advertising, it is frustrating for them to interact with ads because they do not understand the premis. Imagine what a child thinks when he clicks on a picture of a familiar character not to be taken to a game or a video, but to a sign up form. It's an aggrevation that they shouldn't have to deal with.
3. While this might decrease the simplicity of the browser, I would really like to be able to preload usernames and passwords for certain children subscription sites (My Noggin or Alfie for example) so that my child can seemlessly move from website to website without having to ask me to help.
4. Pre-installed sites should be reviewed more often to ensure that the sites are up and running and that the landing page is set to the prefered play area of the site and not just the home page.
