Version: Adblock Pro 2.6
"The best Ad blocking software out there"
Pros: Back in the days of Windows 95 and 98 I used little program called Popup Stopper. Win XP offered IE with automatic popup blocking. This would be all good but the new ads are Java and ActiveX based and sneakier than ever before; a simple popup stopper isn't enough. As a solution I used XP-Antispy freeware to disable Java and ActiveX before entering certain websites. It was a time-consuming procedure but it worked OK and effectively stopped nasty ads and self-installing spyware.
I discovered Adblock Pro by accident. My friend's PC had corrupted Windows and IE installation: Java and ActiveX wouldn't disable on it. It wasn't bad enough to waste the time on a full reinstall; so I just wanted to find some good Ad blocking software instead. Now, this is the third week my friend and I are using Adblock Pro v.2.6 and I have been nothing but most impressed with how effective, intuitive, small and overall perfect it is. For a tiny program (little over 300KB) it offers tremendous options and works like a magic. It has a little counter in the lower right corner of the webpage to show how many ads it stopped. On some websites it shows as many as 20 ads blocked! Highly recommended.
