- "A full-blown multimedia powerhouse"
Boasting an attractive interface and an extensive feature set, J. River Media Center leads the pack of media browsers. The installation takes some time, but it's time well spent.
The program's appeal is apparent even during installation, when you can select from six program skins. Moreover, you can choose a small or a large interface, depending on how much space you'd like the program to occupy on your desktop. Upon launch, it automatically ferrets out media files on your PC and lets you preview details such as resolution, production date, and size. Toggling full-screen views or starting a comprehensive slide show is a mere click away. We were impressed with the program's ability to browse all sorts of media, including photos, videos, and audio files, without relying on external players.
Some of the apps many powers include the ability to burn, rip, and play CDs; to generate playlists; to record sound; to create disc labels; and support and synchronization options for external devices like iPods. To boot, the program even comes with a TV tuner. Media junkies with high standards will wonder how they did without J. River Media Center for so long.

"The very best at everything."
Pros: It plays every file imaginable; and has built in converters to change file types. The music sounds better than winamp, the interface is better than windows media, it organizes your stuff better than real player, and it records and rips without glitches. It's better than kodak for pictures, and it's better for managing iPods than (iHate) iTunes. It has a lot of features most people will never use, yet the download is only about 15mb and the program doesn't have that bulky, slow-your-computer-down-while-it's-running feel. I like the audio analysis feature: it analyzes each song and can adjust the replay gain for playback. You can also use it as a whole house media center, with tv tuning and a universal remote, but i can't say much about how well that works, other than this product is the best at everything else it does. (J River MC12 is out as a beta now, so I upgraded. It looks better and has some additional controls.)
Cons: It's not free. I hate the thought of spending money on a media center, but it's so much better and hassle free than all the others, I've bought two copies for two consecutive computers now. Nothing else compares.

"Great Interface...All Media-In-One Prog"
Pros: Since my music collection is massive to say the least, I have tried almost every media player program. First there was MusicMatch and I liked it very much, but alas my computer didn't and it crashed all the time. My platform is fast and has 2 gigs of memory, but it just didn't like that program, so I went on my quest to find a stable program which could help me manage my collection which consists of over 3,000 LP's, plus many CD's.
Because I'm so paranoid about losing all my work I have installed MediaMonkey, Windows Player 11, iTunes and now Media Center. iTunes is ok with a very simplistic interface and it's pretty easy to use, MediaMonkey is better than iTunes and has a great tagging utility and finally there's Media Center which, in my opinion, has the best looking and manageable interface, plus it performs applications none of the others do. It includes managing all types of media, photos, video, documents, just about everything. Great utilities for adding FX, like simulated surround and more. Also, I am able to record my LP's with their included utility, although that one does require much tweaking.
I'd suggest giving their 30 day free trial a try to see for yourself. If you don't like it then move onto MediaMonkey for free.
Cons: My only beef would be with the in-line recording utility, it requires much tweaking, but when it works it makes it so easy to record my LP's with it's auto-cuts feature. That's it. Good Luck and Enjoy Your Tunes...s2s

"Very well set out piece of software"
Pros: to house so many files it is amazing how easy it is to get around.
Excellent range of portible devices able to connect to it.
Cons: maybe for an adult user the look of the software may not be to their taste but that can be sorted anyway.
