Want to get more out of your iSight camera? Iris is a little app that expands and improves on some of the functionality in Photo Booth and iMovie, while adding several clever twists. At its most basic, Iris helps you take quick snapshots (with a variety of formats and special effects "filters") and shoot movies--including time-lapse movies, which let you slow down time (and save disk space). Iris really gets fun, though, when you use its WebCam and Security features. The WebCam lets you broadcast movies live to the Web, with support for Server Push and Java Applet methods. The Security mode will actually detect any motion in front of your iSight and instantly e-mail you a snapshot of the "intruder" (which, yes, might just be your cat). Iris is still a young application, so it has some shortcomings, including an underwhelming Gallery mode and sketchy motion-detection when in the dark. Fortunately, Iris still has a lot of potential, thanks in part to friendly documentation and a responsive developer.
