The privacy program lets you set hot key combinations for closing applications, hiding active windows, and closing your browser, but it adds a step not found in similar tools and the user guidance isn't very useful.
Hide My Windows has a seemingly straightforward interface. There, you can set hot key combinations or use the programs default settings for hiding and closing applications. The online Help file is very brief and doesn't give much information. The options menu displays start-up and privacy settings, including password protection. We entered a password, but when we clicked OK, we received an error message and had to click cancel to close the window. None of our settings took effect. For our second test, we used the preset hot key combos to hide our active windows and applications, but none of them performed as promised. We even set our own hot key combos, but they didn't work either. After some trial and error, we found the program only worked if you added windows to a filter first. This step limits the flexibility and usefulness of the program, and it isn't how the publisher indicates the program should work.
On top of everything, once we closed the program, we couldn't get it to open again. It would only reopen when we restarted our computer. The trial only allows 2 filters, but that's the least of your worries with this overly complex program to hide your computer activities. We don't recommend this program, and suggest users try one of the many other programs in this genre instead.
