Editor's review of GuardedID
Once you discover the demo activation key, this simple browser tool adds a level of protection when you're entering sensitive data. GuardedID's browser toolbar merely adds an activation light and a pull-down menu for options. Even newbie users won't take more than a minute to identify when this keystroke encryptor is active.
GuardedID's operation is very basic. When you type in any browser field, the application toolbar shows green and the field background changes color. At that point, the program promises to bypass the normal Windows message stream and encrypt all keystrokes to block keyloggers from capturing your data. The application decrypts the keystrokes seamlessly in your browser. For the user, there's no difference from entering information without the program turned on. The utility protects any keyboard plugged into your protected system, which is very useful for laptop owners who use docking stations.
There's no problem using GuardedID, but activating the demo takes some detective work. We found you have to go to the publisher's FAQ to get the current demo activation key. The demo displays an occasional nag screen. For ease of use, and the extra security, this is one of the better privacy protection tools.
