This simple flash-card tool helps users learn and review the spelling and pronunciation of French words. French Before You Know It Lite includes about 200 words in 20 categories, such as Food, Months, Colors, and Beverage. Quizzes cover four stages of learning, from recognition to mastery, and the program tracks progress in each category. The intuitive and very attractive interface provides an onscreen keyboard for entering French characters. The program also can pronounce each word at slow or normal speed (which helps account for the unwieldy size of the 16.2MB installer). However, it has no feature for learning the French alphabet, nor does it offer written pronunciations in the English alphabet. Absolute beginners will need a textbook. Also, although the demo imposes no time limit, it doesn't allow users to customize word lists. Despite those limitations, French Before You Know It Lite makes a great supplement to a French course.

  Best language flash card program yet

  Pros: Very nice list management, has user contributed lists of words, verbal and written practice, and positive reinforcement. Really a great program!

  Cons: when typing answers, one must type the answer exactly as it appears on the other side of a flash card, including capitals. It could be a bit more forgiving considering you had the answer right, just not capitalization. Also, typing with foreign keyboards is a bit challenging!

  French Before You Know It Lite

  Pros: This is really great, it has the feaure to slow down, it gives a lot of chances to get the word correctly. I'm a new to french and I've learned alot already! I downloaded the spanish one and it's great also. I'm not new to spanish but it teaches me words that I dont know.

  I would recommend this product to anyone, beginners especially.
