Free CD Ripper lets you extract audio from a compact disc into most popular file formats, including MP3 and OGG formats, as well as WMA and WAV. Further you can convert the files between these formats. This program proves you can still get a decent CD-ripping application without spending any money. Its stylish main window is not only attractive, but also very functional, with large, clearly labeled icons for all actions.Still, we were glad to find the utility can rip files using the space-efficient VBR compression scheme. This program comes complete with powerful feature-rich recorder included in the package. The output format for the recorder can be pre-set. The user has to select WAV, WMA, MP3, or OGG file as the output and set the quality as desired. However, since you have to keep pressing play every time you want to hear a new track, we don't recommend using it as a dedicated jukebox app.

In our tests, the program performed all the functions flawlessly when run under Windows 2000. As soon as we tried to test it under Windows XP, the application crashed and sometimes it crashed the OS too. Under Windows 2000 the app demonstrated good speed, making it easy for us to recommend this app for Windows 2000 users only who are on the hunt for a quality, cost-free CD-extraction solution. If you are Windows XP users, keep away from this program.

Appeared to install fine. However on opening it displays "Class not registered" and when that is dismissed the app opens, but no drive available, trying to change anything just displays same error. Clicking the help yields the equivalent of a 404 error. Ugh. Waste of time.

Nothing PRO to write about. Didn't serve its purpose at all. Class not registered error popped up.

Full of spyware/malware. I removed it when it just kept giving me errors. But after uninstall, I started getting this pop up asking me to do a free online backup. I contacted Norton support and was informed that it must have come bundled with the CD ripper.
Summary
CNET editor reviews were something I used to rely on to get the exact picture about the software quality. Seems like I was asking the wrong person. Shall be more cautious with your editor reviews in the future.

it was free.

numerous things to decline to. maybe 5 to 10 things to be careful of in the installer. then when i did try to run the program, about 5 error messages popped up before the program window showed up. i then clicked close, then uninstalled the program, and am now writing this review. wow, i don't ever remember a program that sucked so bad when i just tried to run it for the first time.

Downloaded this on the strength of the reviews. Installed it then got various error messages. Uninstalled and downloaded again to be sure. Installed again, same thing. Then when the interface did come up it didn't recognise the cd drive. Plus it takes you to a web page advertisement. This seemed to open up several browser windows with the advert on. That I wouldn't mind if I could get the program to function. I'm not a newbie I've been playing around with computers since before windows came along and I keep my laptop seriously ship shape, so I'm afraid as it stands I can't recommend this software at all. (running Win 7 fully updated. AVG and Private Firewall)

I don't know.. This download installed so much spyware and adware and I had to spend two hours getting rid of it, so I don't know if this is any good or not. I don't recommend trying it at all.

I got a chance to kill 20 minutes waiting on my dinner to cook.

It doesn't work. It will not recognize my cd/dvd drive. Oh yeah, IT INSTALLS ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE.

CNET, I am disappointed. You really dropped the ball on this one. Allowing adware right on through was really the killer for me.

There are no pros, I'd give it negative stars if I could. It also installed another "coupon" program in the background. Useless and deceptive.

Same issues as everyone else. CNET "editors" rating is a joke. This app will not detect either drive on my pc. I get the same Class Not Registered error, and yes, whe you exit the stupid app, it open up a browser to a stupid www.focussoft.net. CNET is basically pushing a known malware application. Great monitoring CNET editors, thanks for the heads up.
Summary
Total waste of time. As others have said, do not download this POC. You will spend quite a bit of time cleaning up after it, and still have files to convert. Total waste of time.
