In a show of down-to-earth humility, Forecaster launches with a notice informing you that all forecasts are approximate and accuracy cannot be guaranteed due to possible collapses and risks taken. Given the economic reality of the last five years, this warning is justified. Instead of making you wade through an interface full of arcane buttons, the program walks you through its options when you choose New from the File menu, collecting data to determine pensions, insurance, and assets for future finances. It includes information on 2003 U.S. tax regulations for calculating things such as capital gains. For those unfamiliar with financial planning, the program's detailed help file and link to the developer's Web site can get you started. Although the interface falls short of being a masterpiece, Forecaster's results are outstanding.
