Publisher's description of Foobar2000
Foobar2000 is an advanced audio player for the Windows platform. Some of the basic features include Replay Gain support, a low-memory footprint, and native support for several popular audio formats. Features include open-component architecture, allowing third-party developers to extend functionality of the player; built-in support for WAV, AIFF, VOC, AU, SND, Ogg Vorbis, MPC, MP2, MP3, MPEG-4 AAC, FLAC, OggFLAC, Monkey's Audio, WavPack, Speex, CDDA, TFMX, and SPC; support through third-party plug-ins; extraction on-the-fly from RAR; 7-Zip and ZIP archives; full Unicode support on Windows NT; efficient handling of large playlists; a highly customizable playlist display; and customizable keyboard shortcuts.
Version 0.9.5.3 adds new title formatting functions and new extensions to the search query syntax.

- "Foobar2000 plays music for the 21st century"
Extensive configuration options distinguish Foobar2000 from its competitors. Although most features of the program are not visible in the main window, a long list can be accessed through the main menu and in the Preferences section. Here you can configure, among other things, the display interface, disk writer, and album list, and even limit the CD reading speed.
The powerful equalizer and resampler are particularly impressive. Unfortunately, the program doesn't support the RM audio format, though it supports most others. Foobar2000 is likely to please those looking for a greater measure of control over their audio players.

Version: Foobar2000 0.9.5.3
Cons: I'm the author of this software and I don't quite remember ever submitting anything to cnet. The description apparently attributed to me is wrong/confusing, contains outdated info (apparently copied from our wiki without permission) and most certainly doesn't come from me.
Does cnet do anything to verify software submissions?

"Extremely SLOW to load a playlist."
Pros: Not much really.
Cons: This software suffers from the same glitch as iTune. It takes forever to load songs into it's playlist. Winamp does it almost instantly regardless of the size of the mp3 folder.

"Music program used for just that."
Pros: Extremely fast and simple. Easy to learn, and even easier to customize. The program opens and loads my playlist of over 2500 songs within one second, and I am not exaggerating. Support for custom keyboard shortcuts is a very nice touch as well. cont.
Cons: No real eye candy here, but honestly, who watches their media player program the whole time they are playing music?
Summary: continued from pros-
Also, it is supported by the last.fm scrobbler. Great sound quality. Minuscule memory footprint. -
Version: Foobar2000 0.9.5.3
Pros: The first time i tried Foobar was with a album i got in FLAC format, and the program worked great. It's simple, quick and easy to use, and is not bogged down by an over obsession with style.
Cons: This is an immensely simple program, and can't doi much but play music... the only thing i don't like.
Summary: Great program for those who need a simple program that can play planty of different music formats.
