Editor's review of EULAlyzer
Combing through end-user license agreements (EULAs) can be a tedious process, but skipping them altogether is downright dangerous. Enter EULAlyzer, which quickly scans any EULA you toss at it and flags words, statements, and phrases worthy of user attention.
The program's clean, but bulky interface features plenty of explanatory text, though we'd still like to see an in-depth help file included. The Analyze menu item is where you'll do most of your work, either by pasting a EULA into the blank box or dragging the plus-sign icon over a license agreement in another window. (If you need to scan an online EULA, you'll have to use the former method.) Much like antispyware programs do, EULAlyzer flags suspicious wording on a scale of 1 to 10 based on how crucial the disclosed information can be to your security. When testing the program with an application full of adware, it demonstrated good performance, flagging all text pertaining to advertising and bundling, as well as listing the names and URLs of the bundled software. Although the freeware version disables a couple of advanced features in the commercial pro software, it will keep statistics on the EULAs it has analyzed and save scanned entries. Though frequent downloaders should still peruse EULAs manually, we think this handy little item makes a quality pickup for anyone concerned with their privacy.
