Avast Home Edition is a complete ICSA & Checkmark certified antivirus, Checkmark certified anti-spyware & anti-rootkit package. Avast includes the following components: On demand scanner with skinnable simple interface, just select what do you want to scan in which way and press the Play button; On access scanner, special providers to protect the most of available e-mail clients; Instant messaging--ICQ, Miranda; Network traffic--intrusion detection, lightweight firewall; P2P protection for Kazaa, BitTorrent; Web shield--monitors and filter all HTTP traffic; NNTP scanner--scans all Usenet Newsgroup traffic and all operations with files on PC; Boot time scanner--scans disks in the same way and in the same time as Windows CHKDSK does.

Version 4.8.1229.80723 improves the unpacking engine.

  The best free one.Better than norton and McAfee.

  Pros: Very light on resources.Now includes antispyware and antirootkit.It has alot of shields like instant messaging scanner and p2p shield.Last time i diwnloaded a virus from limewire,avast detected a virus before the download finished and i was able to delete the virus :D

  It is very easy to use and you can customize it with skins.It finds more viruses than norton and McAfee,scans faster and is lighter on resources.

  I also like the feature that it updates automaticly on startup.

  Cons: P2P shield has no support for CABOS and FROSTWIRE.

  Pros: It's simple and easy to use. There are many settings and different scans to perform. It will find a virus if there is one.

  Cons: It doesn't have it's own firewall.

  Pros: The Virus Warning,Updates Regularly And The Interface.

  Cons: Takes Too Long To Get Into Scanning.

  Pros: NO Manual Updates. this is a great feature rich product that seems to work seamlessly with mozilla and ie. It does all that it advertises...and more.
