Publisher's description of DriveImage XML 1.21
From Runtime Software:DriveImage XML is an easy to use and reliable program for imaging and backing up partitions and logical drives. The program allows you to backup logical drives and partitions to image files, browse these images, view and extract files, restore these images to the same or a different drive, copy directly from drive to drive. Image creation uses Microsoft's Volume Shadow Services (VSS), allowing you to create safe "hot images" even from drives currently in use. Images are stored in XML files, allowing you to process them with 3rd party tools, so you'll never again be stuck with a useless backup. Restore images to drives without having to reboot. DriveImage XML also runs from a WinPE boot CD-ROM.
Version 1.21 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Version: DriveImage XML 1.21
Pros: The first tool, I encounter, that can backup (even the sys-partition) while in Windows! Not from DOS! Nice features like disk spanning or compression, good UI, you always know what's going on. You're always informed about what you do on which drive.
Cons: Cannot restore to the active sys-partition. How would I do this with this tool if I had to? The target partition must have at least size of the backed up partition, which is not necessary with Norton Ghost e.g.

Version: DriveImage XML 1.21
Pros: It makes a harddisk image of your harddrives and copies it to a folder or any other medium ( CD, DVD, external harddrive ).
You can also choose to compress the files so that they don't take up too much space.
Cons: No built-in sheduler, it uses the Windows sheduler ...

Version: DriveImage XML 1.21
Pros: It is very easy to install, very easy to backup, very nice-looking. I was able to restore my old drive's image to a new hard drive in a one-drive computer, using the pre-compiled BartPE plugin downloaded from the runtime.org web site.
And it's free! But after spending days trying to get another paid-for utility to work, I honestly feel that I should send these guys some money for a job well done.

Version: DriveImage XML 1.21
Pros: I looked into a lot of software such as Norton Ghost and Acronis True Image, but after reading all bad reviews on Amazon I looked for something else. I found PartImage which is a free Linux drive image utility that also backs up Windows Drives, but I had several problems with it, including corrupting my external Hard Drive. After working with DriveImage XML it has worked flawlessly for me. It gave me a clean and accurate copy and restore of the entire drive including the OS and other programs. There are helpful YouTube videos on how to use this product, just check the runtime.org site to link to them.
Cons: Need to create a BartPE or UBCD4Win Boot CD (and add the DriveImage XML Plugin)--it can?t create a copy of your drive with the OS when the OS is active. Also, it will only work on Windows XP and Vista.

Version: DriveImage XML 1.21
"Fantastic! Vital for backup & recovery."
Pros: Works under Win but also under BartPE/UBCD4W
which is the better way to run imaging.
Also does drive to drive imaging ...
Cons: I wish DIxml gave an option to specify
the size of the compressed output files.
Current output is too big for 650mb CDRW
but does not fill up a 702mb CDRW ...
