This sophisticated remake of Tetris takes graphics and gameplay to a new place. Like other clones, Crystal Wizard presents a well on the main window that fills up with colored gems, which you have to remove by lining up matching colors. In this game, however, the stones don't fall down--you drop them. You'd think that would make the game a lot easier, but you're working against the clock. The countdown starts anew at every level. If you fail to win before time runs out, you have to start the level over, again and again, until you make it. Moreover, you don't just line up three balls of the same color to increase your score. A special task is assigned at each level. The hardest task is to hit targets, since those targets will deflect your ball so it falls unpredictably and not where you want it. Crystal Wizard will doubtlessly appeal to all fans of Tetris.
