Along with its solid ability to remove spyware, CounterSpy includes a few features we don't normally see in a spyware remover. The attractive interface is nicely arranged, with highly visible buttons to get beginners started. Scanning times are on par with other spyware removers such as Ad-Aware and Spybot, and seem pretty thorough.
CounterSpy's publisher updates its definition file frequently and runs a fully staffed spyware research department. After a scan, CounterSpy can delete, quarantine, or remove spyware. On the quarantine screen we found we couldn't scroll the list of spyware, and we also would like to see a button that would select all of the found spyware, to make removal easier. Those small issues aside, CounterSpy goes above and beyond by including a scheduler, secure file shredder, and a history cleaner. We particularly like the scheduler, which makes it easy to set up weekly scans.
As with other reputable spyware removers, it includes active protection which also monitors ActiveX controls. The trial download includes 15 days of definition file updates. With all the spyware remover scams, it's good to see an application of this quality.

Version: CounterSpy 2.5.1032
"Solid protection at a reasonable price."
Pros: If you don't like it, fine, don't use it. What I can say is I will renew my license this October. It works great on both "XP" and "vista". It has solid protection and removal capabilities ans works the way I like my security software to work. Those who can't download this app or are having trouble with uninstalling it, quit playing around with registry cleaners. There is no problem either downloading or uninstalling this software. It kills all the others in every way. While other vendors like "PC Tools" and "Webroot" are on a huge downhill slide, "Sunbelt Software' remains dependable and that includes great tech support. This is the only software of this type I can recommend. I use this and "Kaspersky" and I stay clean. I hate reformatting!
Cons: It's a large install. Auto updating has some issue on my "Vista" system so I do it manually without any problems. If anyone knows of a better anti spy software, please let me know! And don't tell me anything about "AdAware 2007" because it's not in the same league as "Counter Spy". The only other that is, is "A-Squared" and it's twice the price.

Version: CounterSpy 2.5.1032
Pros: it uninstalls
Cons: if you like huge programs, a slow computer, nonstop popups and something else running on your computer this is for you. it had security popups all the way into the uninstall. it took several reboots and clean ups to get my computer running right. if a program slows down my browsing in any way, that includes security pop ups, it has no use to me. also it didn't find anything, so what is the purpose of it?

Version: CounterSpy 2.5.1032
Pros: It has solid detection and very good removal. It's not to heavy on resources, but what went wrong?
Cons: The program updated and now auto updating will not run. I contacted tech support and was told this issue would be addressed within a couple months. That was 6 months ago! 'Sunbelt Software" has slipped, so much so, that I will no longer be using this program. I recommend trying "Spy Emergency 2007" for a reliable program of this type!
