- "Corel's WinDVD adds Blu-Ray support"
Don't let the hit-or-miss nature of the installation documentation throw you. Even if you have to update components on your machine, you're only moments away from DVD-viewing satisfaction. With an easy-to-use and visually pleasing interface and a bevy of extra features, WinDVD is a demoware dream come true.
The app provides unlimited, theater-perfect playback for the duration of its two-week run on your PC. A slider control improves on the usual Forward and Back buttons, so pinpointing your favorite movie scenes is as fun as watching them in the program's crystal-clear display. Advanced viewing-time controls let you repace the action to fit your available viewing time. The program also features a handful of audio options for Dolby systems and simple headphones.
A full complement of video options includes basic adjustments such as color, contrast, and gamma, as well as advanced tools for monitor calibration. The program's massive 30MB frame also contains great capturing and handling tools for up to six frames at a time. You also can choose to have the movie play as your desktop picture. Give the supersize WinDVD enough CPU room to run and enjoy unfettered viewing pleasure.

Pros: It is truly the best DVD player along with PowerDVD.
Cons: Cannot be used as Video Player
PowerDVD has better features and it is better overall.

"A Very Good Media Player....With One Exception"
Pros: I tried this and I must say it is an impressive media player. It played my files without a hitch. I played one of my .avi files in WinDVD9 and then did a comparison by playing the same file in Windows Media Player. Oddly enough, the file was noticeably clearer and sharper in WMP 11 than WinDVD9.
Cons: Video files look great, but through my comparison, did not come out as sharp and clear as they did in Windows Media Player 11. Nonetheless, a good media player, if you're willing to shell out $80. WMP 11 in my opinion is better, and it didn't cost me one dime.

"Ups the ante in Visual quality in a Major League way!"
Pros: Simplicity, video's better quality WITHOUT the up-conversion. It took me by surprise when I realized the upscaling feature was still off.
Being able to tweak the up-scaling was new to me and is really nice. If this is what we have to look forward to since COREL took over, WinDVD just may dominate without busting a sweat.
Cons: The ONLY thing that keeps WinDVD from being the perfect "Big 5" is that some settings, once in awhile, fall back to default. Such as speaker. I set to 6.1, I check later, somehow it changed back to 2.0.
It's an off and on problem. Before COREL, it was WORSE. Just turn it off and that and other settings reverted.
To be fair, the speaker setting went backwards only one time with this new & improved', but it brought with it some heavy baggage of memories pre- COREL... I get over that and it will be a real 'no brainer' when choosing what dvd player to use

Version: Corel WinDVD 9 Plus
Cons: Didn't play any of my AVIs or DVDs. Played some MPGs. DVDs brought up the debugger window. PowerDVD played everything.
