- "Comodo Pro: For amateurs, too"
Comodo Firewall Pro gets a major revision from its publisher, upgrading to Version 3 with some significant changes. Most importantly, user complaints about resource hogging when Version 2 came out have been all but eradicated with the new model.
The program still provides a smorgasbord of information and options for advanced users, but it's simple enough for beginners, and runs smoothly and silently in the background. The most obvious new features include support for Windows Vista at the expense of Windows 2000 support, although the older v2.4 with Windows 2000 support is still available.
The other big change is the new interface. This new UI isn't exactly an improvement on the old one. However, the blue color scheme has been toned down in favor of basic white, and there's more empty space between the various options. Old terminology has been replaced with more intuitive terms. The new main tabs are Summary, Firewall, Defense +, and Miscellaneous. In each, though, there are links to relevant security issues so users can drill down to learn more about how the firewall is performing.
There's a new feature called the Host Intrusion Prevention System that supposedly protects against unknown threats. Obviously, it's hard to tell if it works unless an unknown threat gets in, but it didn't seem to affect system performance negatively. Mostly, Comodo rears its head most often soon after installation when Security Alerts ask about new Internet connections as the program "learns" your computer's behavior.
Don't be fooled by the name, either. Comodo is labeled Pro but it offers up its dragon-sized treasure of features for free.

Version: Comodo Firewall Pro 3.0.25.378
Pros: The interface is improved. It's free, it's light, it's strong, to strong! When I'm at my computer, I want to use it, not fight with a firewall.
Cons: Wanting to use Antivir Personal Premium that I got through trial pay, free. I hunted a firewall for my new Vista computer. Theres only a few free ones that I'd even look at. Comodo was first & ended up the first app I used Revo uninstaller on! It's mind boggling that it has any good reviews at all. It's plain old stubborn & stupid! Continual pop ups over & over & over with the same questions made it nearly impossible to use my computer. Then it didn't want to close & uninstall. Thank God for revo. Comodo's always been a hard head but this was insane. It was almost like it didn't know what a rule is. Well, Zone Alarms in now. Problem solved! The download.com editor who reviewed this app should be ashamed of him/her self.

Version: Comodo Firewall Pro 3.0.25.378
"Almost too strong plus forgetful for the everyday home user."
Pros: Installs easily and "auto-learns" your most used applications upon initial start-up.
I think IMHO that this firewall is best suited for small businesses. A little too "strong" i.e.(constant pop-up warnings) for my home use.
Cons: Several things... Doesn't like to be un-installed. CONSTANT and ANNOYING pop-up warnings even in installation mode.Hard to navigate GUI took a few tries just to find running and recognized applications. After un-installing Windows Firewall still says Comodo firewall is still installed even though I made sure all Comodo files were deleted.
IMHO try Zone Alarm or PC Tools Firewall they are alot more user friendly and have SPI,(Stateful Packet Inspection) needed for wireless connections.

"Honestly! I don't know how anyone can take."
Pros: Normally, I refrain from commenting about free security software. this is my first & will be my only time doing so. But, I felt a need in this case. Everyone has their limits of endurance & this program wore mine out in less then an hour. It has to be the dumbest, most annoying firewall I've ever seen. Thus, no pros from me.
Cons: Hard to uninstall. Refuses & I mean absolutely refuses to remember your rules, even when manually created. I have no objection to free software but this was as exasperating as hell, plain & simple. I killed it with Revo & life's back to normal. Thats what I recommend those having difficulties uninstalling this use. It's an excellent example of what good free software is.
