If you're tired of annoying pop-up ads when you're surfing the Web, stop them with CleanMyPC Popup Blocker. The built-in artificial-intelligence engine will automatically distinguish between pop-up ads and useful pop-up windows, stopping the unwanted windows while allowing the useful ones.

Version 2.1 enhances the blocking engine and contains some minor bug fixes.

This free pop-up blocker boasts decent performance, although its lack of features is a major strike against it. CleanMyPC Popup Blocker is one of the simplest such applications we've ever seen. The program installs as a browser toolbar with two small icons, one of which enables or disables pop-up blocking. We were a bit disappointed to learn this utility doesn't offer any level of user customization, not even a list of allowed sites. Though the app displays a counter that tracks blocked ads, it won't blink, play a sound, or alert you in any other way. Nevertheless, we were glad to see the newest version of this program features improved blocking performance over previous releases, although it still isn't completely foolproof against some ads. Because of its simplicity, CleanMyPC Popup Blocker best suits casual Web surfers.

  "Really free, only small but handy toolbar. Intelligent blocks!"

  Pros: This FREE tool can really determine the ad-popups and does not block the JS "window.open" if clicked by the user! Really nice!

  Cons: I would like additional whitelist and cookie handling

  Version: CleanMyPC Popup Blocker 2.1

  "An Excellent Piece of Software!"

  Pros: Installation is short and sweet, and the software is completely free. On a few occasions, I've had to actually disable it (but with the click of a button!) because it was blocking even sane pop-ups on some sites that I needed to access (i.e. login interface, registration, etc). CleanMyPC Pop-Up Blocker is a great little tool that installs WITH discretion on your Internet Explorer toolbar. To my understanding, it will even operate just the same with it hidden (not displayed on the toolbar).

  Every client's computer that I do servicing for now, I always recommend two key pieces of software out there, Sygate Personall Firewall and CleanMyPC Pop-Up Blocker. I loved this software so much that I featured it on The Article Project's (my website) Download Center, because not only does it do the job, it's completely free.

  I would liken this program to a widely known free graphing calculator software called GraphCalc that is commonly distributed throughout many universities and colleges in the state of Arizona. Not only is it free, but if the publisher puts a donation service on the same page as the CleanMyPC Pop-Up Blocker, there will be enough grateful individuals that will donate "beaucoup dollars." The teenage (now adult most probably) author of GraphCalc has made millions by simply making his software free, open source to the general public, and doing nothing more than allow visitors to donate. He's essentially made millions through donations for a great software that is free and extremely powerful, just like CleanMyPC Pop-Up Blocker.

  Cons: I don't consider myself to be a casual web surfer as depicted in the review by Download.com, and yet I find no shortcomings of this nicely put together little piece of software.

  Version: CleanMyPC Popup Blocker 2.1

  "Not bad for free, does the job."

  Pros: Clean, simple, small, and effective. You can't expect too much for free, but this is just right, sits in the corner unobtrusively and keeps a blocking count. If, like me you have a slowish laptop which hasn't got the space to install sp2 for xp (which has its own blocker), this does the job just as well.

  "Don't Bother Downloading This!"

  Summary: After reading the review, please do not bother downloading this pop-up software. This software does not have any user customization. Does not permit a list of allowed sites. Finally, does not make a sound when a pop-up is blocked.
