Publisher's description of Cain & Abel

Cain & Abel is a password recovery tool for Microsoft Operating Systems. It allows easy recovery of various kind of passwords by sniffing the network, cracking encrypted passwords using Dictionary, Brute-Force and Cryptanalysis attacks, recording VoIP conversations, decoding scrambled passwords, recovering wireless network keys, revealing password boxes, uncovering cached passwords and analyzing routing protocols.

The program does not exploit any software vulnerabilities or bugs that could not be fixed with little effort. It covers some security aspects/weakness present in protocol's standards, authentication methods and caching mechanisms; its main purpose is the simplified recovery of passwords and credentials from various sources, however it also ships some "non standard" utilities for Microsoft Windows users. This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.

  This could be a vrius?

  Cons: After clicking on the executable, a DOS prompt opened and then closed immediately. Something might have been installed in the hard drive but there is no indication of what it is. After the "install", there is no icon on the desktop and no entry in the Start menu either. As the result, there is no known way for me to run the program. May be someone know how this should be run and can inform me here.

  Pros: I found this program to very helpful in the field of network, internet, and wireless security. Will be able to show customers the weakness of their security and find ways to

  Cons: It ran fine on XP but I could not get it to work on Vista Home Premium. There was not enough help information to understand some of the aspects of the programing to find a solution to fix the problem with Vista. Says it is compatible with Vista.

  Not a virus, but useful for security analysis...

  Pros: For those who are concerned that the program may be a virus, it is not. However, it is very useful in determining how secure an account on the computer is. The nice thing about this is that you can't use it unless you have administrative access already.
