Publisher's description of BurnAware Free Edition 1.3
From BurnAware Technologies:BurnAware allows you to easily perform the most common disc burning operations: write to all CD/DVD media types, including Blu-Ray (BD-R/BD-RE); create and burn disc images; write multi-session discs; verify the integrity of files; burn your compilations directly on optical media, without having to wait for hard drive staging first and much more. Its proprietary burning algorithm provides the highest level or fault-tolerance, error-free burning and data integrity. BurnAware Free Edition has a modern interface and supports Windows NT/2000/XP and Vista (32 and 64 bit). The application is free and contains absolutely no adware or annoying banners. Version 1.3 adds new audio burning engine.

- "Rip for free with BurnAware"
Without a doubt, BurnAware Free is one of the best freeware burning apps around. It has all the basic features you need for burning, and can easily handle ripping data discs, audio CDs, DVDs, and ISO discs. Beyond that, though, it's a bit light on features.
The main interface is based on the Windows XP Control Panel layout, so it should be instantly recognizable. Under each heading is a link to the control panel for that choice. We were disappointed that drag-and-drop was not available, but the internal system for adding files was not clunky. Audio files get automatically converted from MP3, WMA, or WAV as they're burned to disc. There's also a Tools section, which has two erase modes for rewritables, and a Hardware Info subsection that gives a huge amount of detail on both your hardware's burning abilities and the type of disc in the drive.
Neither pretty nor ugly, BurnAware handles all the major, basic functions you could want a burning app to control, and the price of absolutely zero is absolutely impossible to argue against. Give it a shot.

Version: BurnAware Free Edition 1.3
Pros: I have had no problems with this software. Downloaded and installed on both Vista and XP computers without any complications and I find it easier and more trustworthy to use than Nero, plus the price can't be beat!

Version: BurnAware Free Edition 1.3
Pros: There is no virus in Burnaware. AVG is simply producing a false positive. No other virus software does this, so the problem is with AVG.
This is, as CNET says, the best free burning software. It is simple and easy to use. I highly recommend it.
Cons: That said, I have no need for complex burning tasks, so if you do, probably you need to get paid software. But this does everything I need easily, so I am happy.

Pros: Throw away your AV and install something good and stable like NOD32 or Norton to avoid such "alarms".
The software is absolutely great. Easy to use, no problems with burning audio and dvds.
