Burn4Free CD and DVD is a burning solution that's compatible with more than 3,000 DVD and CD burners. Burn data and audio from different file types (WAV, WMA, MP3, OGG, FLAC, WavPack, and CDA). Burn and save ISO files, open and save your project to disk, verify content, print compilations, copy DVDs, and import your audio compilation from M3U and ASX playlists. The drives supported include dual-layer DVD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM (SCSI, IDE, EIDE, and USB 1.0 and 2.0). Version 4.2 adds Lithuanian language support, improves notebook verification process.

Note: This download installs additional Internet Explorer toolbar that can be uninstalled separately at any time from within the browser.

This CD and DVD burner works as advertised, but the bundled toolbar it installs reduces its appeal. Burn4Free CD & DVD lets you burn audio discs or write data to CDs and DVDs by dropping audio or data files into the main window.

The button-heavy main window has a somewhat awkward look, but it's easy enough to understand. If you find yourself overwhelmed by the multitude of controls, you can switch to the more streamlined Easy mode. Be aware that the app attempts to install the NavExcel toolbar, which changes the way IE behaves when you mistype a URL or enter one of NavExcel's recognized keywords into the address bar.

Budget-minded users may not care, but even they have plenty of other cheap and free options. We'd prefer to burn discs with our jukebox of choice or pay for a more full-featured, less invasive application.

"Overall, Burn4Free has been reliable for me."

Pros: I used version 2.4 for years with never a problem with the software, the output, or any type of intrusion. Version 4.2 has been just as reliable.

Cons: What I don't like about Burn4Free is the annoying pop-up asking if you like Burn4Free and if you would like to donate. After you click on NO enough times, it resets your preferences.

Pros: Editor's review is quite right, but rated in favour of the Producer.
My rating is far less since it is not rfeally "free" as the very title itself advertise it.

Cons: All those points that are raised unfavourably by the Editor.
