Despite its claims for ease of use, this Usenet newsreader wasn't quite up to the task during our tests.
Binbot offers an unadorned, functional interface that looks easy to use, but we were disappointed to find its appearance a bit deceiving. It installed easily, and inserting the name of our news server was a snap. And though we like the category options Binbot offers for groups by audio, video, photos, or all binaries, we were displeased that it limits Usenet groups only to those with binaries in the name.
Binbot performed a bit erratically in our tests. It worked quickly, but on some occasions it declared it had downloaded a number of article headers, but would display none; other times, it worked fine. One obvious flaw was the lack of a preview or viewing pane at all. Files were downloaded to our hard drive and we had to use Windows Explorer to find and open them.
Binbot offers no Help feature--assistance must be requested through an e-mail to the publisher. This is a real flaw in a program that doesn't perform in as simple a manner as declared. This array of problems leads us not to recommend its use, particularly to novices. Although the trial period is sufficient, there's nothing that seems to warrant paying for this app.
