Behavior Tracker is a research tool that allows you to set up a template of the behaviors you wish to monitor, then track and record your observations. You can, for example, use it to record how often an animal subject grooms another subject. You can edit your results or compare your recordings with those of someone else monitoring the same events. You can also view, graph, print, and export the data to your favorite application for further analysis. Version 1.5 adds tags and behavior modifiers.

Bizarre functionality detracts from the usefulness of Behavior Tracker, an application designed to record important events for research purposes. Behavior Tracker contains four executables, each performing a different yet dependent function. Input information about observed behavior in one file, record the amount of time spent on each behavior in a second file, make adjustments to the event time in another file, and show the data and resulting graphs with the last file. Why the executables can't be combined into one application is puzzling to us. The interface is bland and offers no hint as to where to begin. The Help file provides information on behavior monitoring but little help on navigating Behavior Tracker. Once you've figured out how to make things work, results can be exported in several formats, including Excel or text files or graphs. Only advanced researchers are likely to want to invest the time to learn Behavior Tracker.
