By making multiple simultaneous server requests, BackStreet Browser can quickly download an entire Web site, including HTML, graphics, Java applets, sound, and other user-definable files. Just point BackStreet to a site, and in a few short moments a quick-loading hard drive copy of that site will be ready to view offline. BackStreet includes a built-in full-screen browser and Web-related File Finder and viewer. It also includes online help files. BackStreet Browser allows you to resume downloads, duplicate directory structures, and zip up all the files on any given project into a self-extracting executable file. It also includes a image thumbnail viewer.

Version 3.1 may include unspecified updates, enhancements or bug fixes.

The hit-and-miss BackStreet Browser lets you download an entire site and save it to your hard drive for offline viewing. It sports a straightforward interface with a tree menu for files on the left, and windows for viewing files, embedded IE, and download statistics on the right. The Download Threads toolbar let you view the download speeds of each file. You'll be asked to set parameters at the start of each new project including file filters, URL filters, and the type of server connection. We appreciate the ability to update previously downloaded Web sites to their current edition. During testing, our first site download went considerably quickly, considering that it captured all HTML, graphics, and Java applets. However, when we tried to download another, larger site, our computer became very sluggish and we eventually had to cancel the job. Also, we weren't able to view files in the embedded IE window; instead, double-clicking a file sent it to our browser window. Its uneven performance and brief 15-day trial period leave little to desire from this browser add-on.

  Good Concept

  Pros: The concept of this tool is good, and it fills a definite need.

  Cons: It would be much stronger if it were integrated into Firefox as an add on, creating a bookmark folder for the project, and an entry for each individual page (online and offline in separate folders) The price is exorbitant for the functionality. The interface appearance is average. The built in "browser" window is small and awkward.

  Pros: Simple and does what I want. Very fast, and not bloated.

  Cons: There were a few bugs within the software, but I didn't notice any lose off functionality. The software hasn't been updated for a while. I'll continue to search for a better open-source and community supported application.
