Version: Axialis IconWorkshop 6.01
"A Great Program At An Insulting Price"
Pros: Very powerful program that supports multiple icon sizes, extracts icons from external files, and lets you create beautiful icons from scratch. If you are in the business of creating icons (and I mean earning money for it) then IconWorkshop is hard to beat as the program of choice. Also sports a beautiful and intuitive interface. Another nice feature is that it can automatically generate different sized icons from the same artwork. Very solid performer all around.
Cons: It seems to be a trend that some very good software happens to be produced by companies who have a fondness for shooting themselves in the foot by overcharging for their products! IconWorkshop is a blatant example. It's not that $35 is a lot of money, but it's simply too much for a program that focuses so narrowly on just editing and creating icons. If you're not much of an artist, or if you don't have a REAL need for creating LOTS of icons, you'd be wasting all but about a dollar of your money if you buy this program. You can get some extremely capable programs FREE that will do about 97% of what IconWorkshop does. Sure it looks great, but if you are buying a program just because it looks good then you are wasting money. Companies need to check the market before they produce software, then charge premium prices when their functionality is duplicated almost feature-by-feature in other, free programs. Pricing like this insults buyers by taking advantage of the notion that you probably don't know of any other software that does what this program does and is free, or that you don't know how to look for it.
Try IconWorkshop out, I think you'll be impressed, but before you buy, look around, you will more than likely find a free program that does everything you might need this kind of program to do.

Version: Axialis IconWorkshop 6.01
Pros: Extremely intuitive. Works a lot like Photoshop - even has a plugin for importing directly from Photoshop. I also love how easy it is to make any image into an icon (even PSD files!) or any existing icon into icons of different sizes, colors, etc. I also use this proggie in conjuntion with Stuffit for Windows to turn Mac icons (.icns) into Windows icons (.ico). Sweet!
Cons: None so far.
