Editor's review of Aw2 Explorer 10.5
Need a new home page for your surfing? Aw2 Explorer offers a dandy alternative to the familiar types offered by Yahoo, Google and the like.
Aw2 features a home page you can open anywhere, no matter where you're surfing. You can customize it to provide the news and entertainment features you prefer. It also offers some multimedia links to Aw2s video and audio features that will appeal to anyone who is frequently plugged in to online viewing at YouTube, NetFlix, and similar sites. The initial page is rather cluttered and confusing because the publishers have crammed it full of everything but the cyberkitchen sink (trying to offer something for everyone can sometimes backfire). Customizing the page can clear out some of the stuff that's nonessential for individual users.
In addition, we really liked the Mac-like Dock Aw2 added to our desktop. If you work with windows at full-size, you have to rely on Windows Task Bar or Alt+Tab to move among windows and applications. The Dock works similarly, but as your mouse cursor rolls over icons, each swell in size and a contextual tag identifies the item. It doesn't necessarily work better than the Task Bar, but it looks cool. (And for some users, looking cool is better than out-performing another application.)
Aw2 performed well in all our tests, responding quickly with no glitches as we tried it out. We didn't like that it didn't offer an option to select where we wanted to install it during setup, but thats a minor quibble. Not everyone needs this free tool, but if you're looking for a change of pace, give this download a try.
