Pros: I am a firm beleiver in The trend Micro AV engine as the best. But, Avast and NOD32 are also exceptional AV app's. This app is lite effective and free. Skinable is a big plus but is's ability to detect trojans, worms, other parasites as well as viruses make this app a real stand out. Once regisreted you get a free year of updates and support. Target and email scanning are big plusses to go with "Avast". Vista compatability is also great. How the company can afford to give it away is hard to understand but, it is also an enterprise software. 4 stars, again because I will never rate a security app higher. Thank you to the publisher for this fine security software.
Cons: Two years of using it as a secondary AV scanner and I have found None!

I did not download Avast due to its warning that it might conflict with Norton Anti Virus. Did you have Norton prior to Avast? To remove Norton is a major operation I believe and I'd like to avoid doing that if possible.
Thanks
Jerry

it is possible to have a conflict, but unlikely if you don't run avast active. you'll only be able to use it as an on demand scanner. however, i am a firm believer that you should never run two av engines active at the same time. an alternative for you is to go to trendmicro and run housecall. since doing that causes no conflict with norton, i seriously doubt running avast as strictly on demand will. if there is a problem, it would most likely be a false positive on trojans. the way norton updates is trojan like in nature. that's why so many people claim their new av found trojans after uninstalling norton. a tool is available from norton to help with the romoval of the program. it's very important to have both norton and mcafee, totally off your pc to avoid conflicts. if you know how to set up avast to not actively scan, i'd ignore the warning.

Personslly, I've hed nothing but problems with "Norton". One time it told me that I had to turn off "system restore" before the infection could be cleaned. Well, I did and when I turned it back on all of my restore points were wiped out. My recomendation is to download the "Norton" removal tool and get rid of it. Of course, i understand your reservations if you paid big bucks for ir. I beleive "Norton" is over priced and over rated. It is without a doubt a security program that conflicts with many other security programs. "Avast", "Comodo" firewall and "Spyware Terminator" together with one good paid anti spy app like "Counter Spy" provides much batter protection and all are 100% free excepy "Counter Spy" which is only $19.95. One other alternative to uninstall "Norton" should you decide to is to do it with the free trial of "Smarty Uninstaller". Good luck no matter what you decide and please keep us posted!

as stated in warmaru's reply. he gave you one of the best list of options that total all of twenty dollars. i know for a fact that he's thoroughly tested his list of apps on one of the best simulated attack programs i know of. if he wasn't satisfied with his application list and it's reactions to the the assualt. he wouldn't be pointing you to them, for 20 bucks.... it can't be beat.
