This puzzle game reminds us of many we've played before, but we think it will still offer a challenge to fans of the genre. Although Avalanche offers three types of puzzles, your basic goal is always the same: pop clusters of colorful snowballs before the board overflows and ends your game. Even on the earlier levels, the snowballs rain down at a fast and furious pace, so you'll need both a sharp eye and a quick clicking finger to be successful. The graphics, particularly the background scenery, are perfectly suitable, as are the music and sound effects. If you disagree with our judgment about the audio, you can always turn it down or disable it, and you'll find an option for playing in window mode. Since Avalance requires the RealArcade software, it installs a bit more slowly and takes up more space than some other puzzle games. Also, the one-hour trial period is too short for our tastes. If you're looking for a fast-paced brainteaser with a frigid twist, you should definitely take a look at this one.
