Publisher's description of AutoIt
AutoIt is a simple tool that can simulate key presses, mouse movements and window commands in order to automate any windows based task. AutoIt was primarily designed to assist in automatically installing software that cannot be automatically installed by other means.
This is most useful during a PC rollout where thousands of client machines need to be automatically installed. However, AutoIt can also be used as a general purpose scripting language. Version 3.2.8.1 includes unspecified updates.p>
Editor's review of AutoIt
4.0 stars
Far too much computer use winds up being repetitive tasks, repeating the same mouse clicks and keystrokes every day to open a program, manage networks, or back up data. This tool helps automate functions inside Windows-based programs, simulating key strokes and mouse movements, manipulating windows, and generally serving as a second you.
But while potentially helpful, it's definitely aimed at the power-user set. It offers a powerful scripting language and runtime, and allows users to compile scripts into EXE files that can be run on any computer. Even the most advanced users are likely to want to spend a few hours with the manual. We'd recommend the tool to system administrators and other alpha techies who are fed up with repetitive tasks, but ordinary computer users should probably look elsewhere.

Version: AutoIt 3.2.8.1
"EXCELLENT AND VERY EASY TO LEARN!"
Pros: this is a very simple (sounding) language, by which i mean alot of the commands and functions sound like the obvious english word for it. also, it is very easy to learn... try downloading some sourcecode for some program (that's written in autoit obviously!) and try and make it better... it really can help as you can go through the code and figure out what everything does...
i downloaded this sourcecode: officepoltergeist.com/
and created this: officepoltergeist.110mb.com/

Version: AutoIt 3.2.8.1
"Love it, use it all the time"
Pros: Very powerful, very clever. Great set of built-in routines to hand most tasks with ease, and the development environment with its smart integrated help function makes it easy to come back to the language a few months later and quickly get back up to speed.
Great for writing new-improved front-ends for clumsy programs with terrible interfaces. I used it to write little scripts for repetitively updating the track info in iTunes and WMP, for prototyping GUI changes, for checking the colour value of certain pixels on my screen, and more. I'm here downloading the latest copy for my new Vista machine.
Cons: The recording capabilities are good, but not quite as powerful as I might like. On the other hand, making it more powerful than it is would be a tremendous amount of work, so I'm not surprised it hasn't been done yet.
If you have a background in programming, it's easy to learn, but otherwise, unless you enjoy a puzzle, this is probably not the right tool for you.
