Publisher's description of Atomsmith

From Bitwixt Software Systems: Atomsmith is an easy-to-use, Windows-based program for exploring models of molecules. Scientists, high school and college-level students, and teachers use Atomsmith to study the 3D structure and behavior of molecules. Atomsmith's Gas Lab is a great way to experiment with molecules -- watch them melt, boil, condense and freeze as you vary the temperature and the size of the box.

Editor's review of Atomsmith

4 star editors rating Nanotechnology may be years away, but Atomsmith is here right now. This fascinating educational package lets you build molecules from the ground up (or, rather, the atom up) and watch how they behave under different conditions. For a quick start, load one of the models from the provided molecular library. Atomsmith can display molecules in wireframe, stick, ball-and-stick, and spacefill modes. In addition, you can rotate, zoom, and relocate the model in the main window to get your desired view. Crank the temperature up and down and cue the dynamics to watch your molecule dance with energy. Advanced features include a Gas Lab, energy graphs, and a tool for building amino acids on the fly. If Atomsmith has a weakness, it's the graphics, which range from the just-adequate to the seriously blocky. Also, the 14-day trial is only long enough to scratch the surface. All in all, though, this is a great choice for advanced chemistry students.
