From Apple:

PowerBook 1400 users should install this updated extension for greater compatibility with ATA PC flash cards. ATA PC flash cards are commonly used with digital cameras. This update corrects an error that was in the original driver for the ATA PC flash cards. You need this update only if you are using a PowerBook 1400 computer and ATA PC cards.
