It s up to you alone whether you wait until the Nazis burn and bomb out your country or you take off and rush to a section of enemy aircraft with unequalled determination. Air Guard was in development for almost two years and underwent thorough testing. The heart of the game is our own unique 3D engine created for open-air exteriors. Enemies incoming! In Air Guard you fly a World War II fighter plane against waves of Nazi attackers. The game is straight-up arcade action. You control the plane from behind the tail, which gives you a grand view of the 3D countryside. You can bank, pitch, and throttle up and down, but you never have to take off or land. The six-level demo includes dogfighting, bombing, and low-level reconnaissance, as well as a bit of flight practice. The graphics are pleasant but unremarkable, though we did like the sound effects and energetic music. But we mainly wished the game were more challenging. Even without crosshairs, picking off enemy fighters and ground targets is a cinch. And $19.50 for the registered version is far too much. For the same price you could buy, say WWII Fighters, or some other vastly superior game. Our recommendation? Take Air Guard out for a lark, but save your money for a more powerful warbird.
