Version: Free Serial Port Monitor 3.31
"You've got to be kidding me!"
Pros: Sounds good.
Cons: Downloaded the app and it was a internet install program, which I don't like because of security issue's. When I double clicked on the app it spun my hard drive for 20 seconds and then crashed! I tried to contact HHD software but my email was kicked back. Then I checked the WHOis on the site and found out it was in Moscow. Is this a post cold war (free) trojan horse?

Version: Free Serial Port Monitor 3.31
"Nice, but free version is limited and paid versions expensive."
Pros: Nice interface, with Wizards to guide the user through creating a session of the right type.
Paid versions have some very powerful features.
Didn't have any of the problems yaleman mentioned - the download was a single file that installed without a hitch and didn't need access to the internet again.
Cons: A lot of the functions in the description (like monitoring traffic between Windows applications and the serial port) are only available in paid versions, and the "regular" version is rather expensive at $74.99. This would be less annoying if the description told you that up front.
Bring the "regular" version below $50 and I'd buy it in a snap.

Version: Free Serial Port Monitor 3.31
Pros: There were the options to just about do everything
Faster response than other monitors I have tried
Cons: Some interference with the traffic. The program changed some of the actual data being transmitted when there was a lot of information, when this happened, it froze every computer I tried (5) and needed to be reset. Basically, was not a seamless monitor, it did change the way my programs worked and crashed durring high traffic (using 38400, 8, n, 1, h)
No logging in freeware version, availible in full version

Version: Free Serial Port Monitor 3.31
Pros: Does a lot of good things.
Cons: They forgot to mention that the very important features- like the protocol analyzer, etc is disabled in the free edition- only works with the paid version according to the help files.
