Version: Adobe Reader 9
"Can't Install, Good Riddance"
Cons: I deleted 7 so now I can't install 9. Wonderful software, huh? Good riddance to bad rubbish - Adobe is tearing down computer systems with the bloatware spawned through its supreme arrogance (the arrogance that assures Adobe that it's superior to all mortal software companies and hence is entitled to put shortcuts to all its programs into the root of the Programs menu). Flash is likely the worst offender (I have to watch where I put my cursor nowadays) but Acrobat has become an ill-mannered, overblown monster as well, and will probably continue to get progressively worse with time.

Version: Adobe Reader 9
"Crashes my PC (Windows XP/SP3)"
Pros: The ONLY thing going for it is that it is the defacto standard. That's it.
Cons: It crashes my PC (window XP/SP3). My PC is normally very stable.
Adobe Reader is hideously bloated, taking up FAR too much disk space (well over 100MB!).
Irritatingly Adobe dont seem to host previous versions, so that if the new version doesnt work we can not go back to previous versions.
HIDEOUS!

"Can't get Adobe Reader 9 to install"
Cons: I can't get this version to install. The installer runs to 99.9% then quits with no error information. A search of the web and the Adobe support forum show that many other people are having the same problem. Adobe has offered no troubleshooting suggestions.

Version: Adobe Reader 9
Pros: Opens PDF files just like every other version.
Cons: Crashes every time I do a search. Tried reinstalling but didn't fix the problem. Installer on site isn't compatible with FF 3.0.1
Summary: Don't bother. read more

Version: Adobe Reader 9
"Too bloated for the average user"
Pros: I do give credit, though, it seems to load up a pdf faster than Reader 8, but still a lot slower than Fox it.
It also offers nice animations, and potential for lots of exploits!
Cons: At first glance it uses ~ 25MB of RAM when running, without any documents opened (Pdfs). With one text based PDF open, it uses about 35MB of RAM. With two PDFs open, Reader 9 uses a little over 50MB of RAM!!
Foxit with the same two PDFs opened use less than 10MBs of RAM.
Furthermore, with reader 9, you can feel how Reader 9 uses alot of CPU processing power, especially when going from window mode to full-screen (CTRL -L) and back again, there is a significant delay.
The .cab file that is extracted from the download archive(33MB), is about 100MBs, and this .cab file stays in your "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9" Directory, causing that directory to be over 200MB in size! Why didn't they just keep the special install archive that uses special compression techniques, inside the directory to save space??
