A wide range of configuration options sets Ad Popup Killer apart from many of its competitors, although the actual blocking was hit-or-miss. The program doesn't display its license agreement until after installation, but there are no nasty surprises there. The first time you launch Ad Popup Killer, it starts up a configuration wizard that lets you select settings such as minimizing the program in the system tray and enabling sound when a pop-up is blocked. Other settings include the ability to add links to the whitelists or blacklists and to clean the Internet cache, history, cookies, and Recycle Bin. Installation adds the crosshairs logo to the system tray and to the Internet Explorer toolbar. Ad Popup Killer lets pop-up windows open, then terminates them. Not all pop-ups were blocked during our test, though, with some X-rated ones getting through. You get a 30-use, not 30-day, trial. The highly configurable interface and extra functions impress, but home users might expect better blocking.
