Pros: I do give "Grisoft" credit for trying. They release a new number (supposedly new version) often. I'm giving it three stars because it's the best thing I know of that makes me money. I do a little computer repair work for neighbors, my sons friends and friends of theirs, mostly high school teen agers who use laptops for school work and their families. I work on an average of two or three a week that have had this application installed on it. Once I get the computers (mostly laptops) going again, if I can, I install a different free anti virus application. Those are usually people I never have to do repeat work for again. I must say, that I'm proud of the download.com editors for no longer giving this software hyped up, misleading five star reviews. Way to go download.com. Point is that it still misses some of the most common, older viruses and trojans there are. It does not clean all it does detect. If you take the time to do some research on this application you will notice that it's not found at any reputable anti virus comparison wen sites. Ever wonder why?

If you research a free application against large money-making applications (that advertise on most web sites) you will look until you're blue in the face. Since YOU haven't researched any "reputable" sites without a paid agenda (AV advertising) you won't see AVG mentioned.
Since AVG makes an AV that improves itself consistently, your PC work will soon dry up if you keep blaming AVG for the problems.
I work on computers daily and I recommend and install AVG. I have not had to repair a PC because it had AVG as an anti-virus program. Ever wonder why?

You like this application and I don't. No big deal either way. My little computer fixer job is just to make some extra cash. Repeat business is not something I look forward to. But I can guarantee I will never install this application when I repair computers that came to me infected so bad it's difficult to start them even in safe mode with "AVG free" installed. "AntiVir PE" is the free one I install and everybody loves it. There is no comparison between the two.

You are the one who needs to do some research. There is zero bias at avcomparisons(dot)org. They have the largest test file there is and get paid nothing. This junk is not there but AVG Anti Malware is and scores terrible. Please quit commenting when you are dead wrong. You have 3 reviews, all on versions of this app.

I looking at this question myself, the professional version of AVG Anti Virus is not to be found at these comparison sites either. This, ranman54, makes your comments wrong and chainmail2006's correct. The only AVG product I found at any of these sites was the anti malware and it did score very low.

You know why you never see them compared, I'll tell you. It's because when you are that good no one else can touch you or compare to you. I do work on pc's full time and I use nothing else but AVG.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally I use "Kaspersky" and "AntiVir Premium" only but I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford them when many aren't. I just don't care for, nor will I use this application myself, or on anyone else's computer.

Your comment is ridicules and not true. It isn't shown because it isn't good enough to compare to the ones that are. I trust AVG as far as I can throw it. If you did work on computers you would know better. Or, you are just a cheapskate.

I too work on PC and I have used this software, the free version in fact, for several years. I have never had a single Trojan or Virus nor have I ever had any compatibility issues like I had when I used McAffee or Norton. I have seen this recommended on many sites and have recomended it myself for years. As I said in another reply - some folks can't use any software successfully and others would complian if you gave them old money. In other woprds I think some folks just like to complain and seem smarter than everyone else.

Well, it's exactly why there are so many anti virus programs available. Everybody has their own choice. I choose not to use "AVG Free" because of a past, bad experience with it. When it comes to my computer, I've learned, the hard way, that it is better to invest in something like "Kaspersky" then to use a free program. The time it takes to reformat alone, pays for my security software. But if I did use a free program it would be "AntiVir Personal", but that is just my preference. I don't believe "AVG Free" is good enough to depend on when it comes to keeping a clean computer. But we all should remember, free programs are just that, free and we all get get what we pay for.
