SlickRun is a floating command line utility for Windows. SlickRun gives you almost instant access to any program or website. SlickRun allows you to create command aliases (known as MagicWords), so C:Program FilesOutlook Expressmsimn.exe becomes MAIL. Enter a URL into SlickRun and it will launch your browser and navigate to the specified address. Run multiple programs in a few keystrokes, jot a note, look up a definition.

Graphic interfaces are a godsend, but rummaging through the Windows Start menu or scouring the desktop to find a desired program or document can sometimes get frustrating. SlickRun, like a handful of rivals, offers a command-line interface that can save time. A floating text box allows users to launch programs or documents quickly simply by typing in associated words ("Mail" for Outlook Express, for example). An autocomplete feature shortens the process even further, requiring only a few letters before settling on the right program. Unfortunately, the Help file is confusing, and the utility takes up more memory than we would have liked to see. We would nevertheless recommend it happily to command-line buffs or anyone else seeking at-the-fingertip shortcuts to commonly used files.

"Fantastic!"

Pros: What's not to love about this magic genie?

It quickly opens any file, program, folder or website. You can set it up to open multiple things at once. And you can set it up to search any of your favorite sites (like download.com or snopes.com) from your desktop. Assign an magic word that you will remember and the auto-fill feature types in the rest after you enter the first few letters.

You can leave it as a floating command line utility on your desktop or have it hidden in the tray until you need it.

It should be automatically bundled with all Windows computers. It's addictive.

Cons: It would be nice to be able to right-click on it when hidden in the tray to access the the functional menu. Other than that, it's perfect.

"Having memorized so many commands - this became perfect for me"

Pros: learning computer commands through a group called the information station, I've improved my data processing, IT command structure and how to use it, but without slickrun, it would be a tedious task.... slickrun makes it easy to slam one command after another.

Pros: This was just what I was looking for, launches web pages, folders, programs all based on whatever I call them. Small screen footprint. The review says kind of heavy on the memory, I show 11mb. That doesn't bother me much.
