Editor's review of A-book

4 star editors rating If you've outgrown your little black book, you may want to try A-book, a flexible, easy-to-use contact manager. The pastel-colored interface uses the familiar three-pane file-tree-and-Rolodex-card approach. Each contact card organizes phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and the like under five tabs: Business, Personal, Home, General, and Other. For added flexibility, you also can assign a given contact to multiple address books and categories. If you have a modem installed, the built-in dialer can call numbers with the click of a button. Unfortunately, Pocket PC synchronization requires an extra $19.95 download. Other than that, A-book is completely inoffensive. It doesn't dazzle you with features; it just gets the job done with a solid feature set, appealing looks, and an adequate help file. It's sufficient for home use, but on-the-go businesspeople will want to find a more heavy-duty package.
