Ridiculous!
Pros: I was excited about this since many people said there were a ton of improvements. I'll give this a few props since it was able to install properly, meanwhile it didn't work on everyone else, so it made me feel more fortunate.
Cons: This is awful. Doing a smart scan finds 39 infections and I had to cancel the scan in the middle of 5 minutes because it takes way longer than the SE version. 39 infections?! After I stopped scan, I didn't find any place to view what I got infected with. It must have found a lot of tracker cookies like SE but even my small to decent adware/spyware scanners didn't find 39 infections; hard to believe ad-aware was telling the truth unless they really did make this major improvement.
Interface, to me looks a lot like the 2007 version, still glossy and crappy and eating up all my RAM while scanning and even having the program open makes my computer slow. The scan tends to freeze once it reaches my C:\Windows folder and files and caused my Opera, Firefox, and Pidgin to "not respond" which never happened to me before.
Still, a wonderful 25.19MB after installation added on which we don't even know where all the clutter comes from. While installing, it also prompted me to remove my SE version and I refused. It seems like they tried to move people up and force us to use the latest version.
Scanning time takes almost four times longer than the original SE version, and the RAM usage is also almost four times more.
This program keeps getting worse everyday and I'm definitely going to stick with Ad-Aware SE. This version (2008) is worthy of scold.
Uninstall Previous Version
Maybe if you'd relax and follow some simple rules/guidelines, you're computer and it's programs would have a better chance of success:
1) You didn't uninstall the previous version
2) You stopped the scan after five minutes and demanded to know...I'm not sure what.
3) How cares how long it takes? Walk away and go have a taco or something. Give your computer a chance to do it's thing.
buy a mac
Buy a mac and watch all your problems float away into tir na nog.No spyware,no viruses, happy fun times!.
is Ad-Aware SE even updated anymore?
"It seems like they tried to move people up and force us to use the latest version."
Ya, using outdated, unsupported software to protect your PC is kinda dumb, don't you think?
Your reviews are slipping Joyce!
Ridiculous! This review is ridiculous. Dead wrong again girl! What have you been smoking? The only thing I see wrong is these poor reviews. This app has been fixed. 25.19MB? So what? Counter Spy is over 240MB. Please, use your head because this is very misleading for sure.
hah hah
i think your strung up the wrong way and you need and anal probe or else buy a mac like andeyejapseye says!.
i agree
after downloading i couldn't find it and it only [visibly] scanned once while in the background it my computer to a slow drag.
i finally got rid of it [how ? !] and my computer returned to a reasonable speed.
Ad-Aware removed from all 5 of my computers due to problems
It ran for almost 2 hours and was locked up, but the clock said it was still running. It found 35 problems, but when you cancel it now, you lose everything.
Mozilla is working properly again. With Ad-Aware, I could go to Craigslist and search once. Then Mozilla was dead. IE worked, but Mozilla was so bad I uninstalled my favorite.
Ad-Aware WAS good. Past Tense. I will seek a program that works as advertised. I have a couple of friends who have also uninstalled it. It used to be the best. Spybot & AVG and Zone Alarm will have to protect me for now.
some interesting points
Go back to Ad-Aware SE
I have problems with using Ad-Aware 2008. I want to go back to Ad-Aware SE because it is more friendly user. It just takes minutes to complete each scan (5-10). The 2008 took more than 22 hours to scan and it was still running when I cancelled it. Now the Ad Aware 2008 doesn't work at all. It's really ridiculous & so frustrating. I really miss the SE version. I do the scan with SE version almost everyday and I am happy with it. I thought that the 2008 version would be better. It's a big mistake that I regret to update it to 2008 version. When I downloaded the 2008, the SE version had to be removed in the process of downloading the 2008 version so when you said you definitely stick with SE version, I'd like to know how you can do that because that what I want, too. Could you please share that with me?
Thanks.
Not a bad program for what it does, and it's free.
Your problem with AdAware 2008 was answered in your own review. You said you refused to uninstall the AdAware SE version. That is the reason your machine slowed down, and things started to freeze-up on you. You can't have two of the same programs on one computer.
