This functionality is already in WindowsXP... it comes with your computer
I'm confused as to why people are downloading this utility... I didn't even try it. Why do you ask? Windows already includes an atomic clock sync, it's included in XP! Just goto the Date and Time Properties (double click your clock) and look in the Internet Time tab, check the box to enable automatic synchronization. Haha
Good for Windows XP - but believe it or not, not everyone uses Windows XP
This might address your confusion about why anybody would download it. This functionality is not included in previous versions of Windows, which run on three of the three PCs in my home.
Thanks for the info.
Thank you for the information on XP (I'm a new user) and listing on how to get to the clock. You saved me a download. : )
Then what computer clock programs do you recommend?
Not quite correct
Yes, Windows XP does offer time syncronization but it is not to an atomic clock but a time server. Both of the options that XP offers "time.windows.com" and "time.nist.gov" are both time servers not an atomic clock.
Yes, but...
Yes, Windows does have the option of using a time server, and it's a great thing, especially since it's on by default. But it's not that configurable. I've even looked in the registry for some options like update frequency. The only things you can change are turning it on and off, and the server.
My HTPC is getting a time update from somewhere that's about 2-3 minutes off. I just can't find the source, and there's no event listed. I need an app that will do hourly updates until I figure out what's going on - it's messing with my record times.
If XP's features works so well...
...why were you looking for clock sync utilities on Download.com?
If Windows XP Pro is joined to a domain, the Internet Time tab is not available since the operating system should then sync with a domain controller.
Users wanting to sync with another time source easily would want software such as this.
HaHa.........XP time sync doesn't always work
I've been using auto time sync since XP came out but 78% of the time it fails to communicate with the servers. Atomic Clock never fails.
Very Helpful
Thanks so much for the directions. I hadn't known this was included with Windows XP.
XP will not work where you really need it, but Atomic Clock Sync works!!
My notebook clock battery died and goes to 1988 every time i start up. XP will not sync if date is wrong. Atomic Clock Sync will sync BOTH DATE AND TIME automically and accurately whenever online. It was too much trouble to replace the clock battery for an old notebook that is otherwise in good working condition. If your pc clock is off a few seconds, its not that important. But when it gives you 1988, thats when you need it the most. its like replacing my pc clock for free.
