Version: 7-Zip 4.44 beta
"Awsome Software. Free to use. Open Source."
Pros: Unpack (decompress): 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, RAR, ISO, CAB, ARJ, LZH, CHM, Z, CPIO, RPM and DEB files (all without the need for external programs).
Pack (compress): 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR files.
Freeware
Open Source software (GPL).
Frequently updated.
Nothing beats the 7-Zip (7z) format when it comes to compression. It squeezes files smaller than any other compression format. And unlike WinZip you can make self-extracting archives (.exe) with the same program (WinZip requires addon software at additional cost).
Excellent Windows shell integration.
And it's now available in a 64-bit version.
Cons: The GUI is ugly.

Version: 7-Zip 4.44 beta
"Pretty darn good compression application."
Pros: Every release gets better and the new version supports "RAR" files which was long overdue. The compression ratio is outstanding. The GUI is as simple to use as the application itself. And, If anyone is interested, there is a newer version available that supports "Vista' I found it at "Softpedia" but it requires a torrent download right now, or so they say.
Cons: No cons. This is a very good, free compression utility.
