If you like to play the card game known as Spades, chances are you'll enjoy this lively virtual version. Although the game includes a Tutor to help guide you and an autoplay option, it lacks extensive instructions, making it better suited to those who already know this game. 3D Spades Deluxe lets you play in two nicely designed card rooms against a variety of characters. By default, your teammate is an animated human named Kate, but you also can play with the cartoon king or queen, as well as with a bizarre-looking fellow named iPuppet Guy. The one downside to the game's polished approach is it eats quite a bit of memory.
You also can adjust the skill level and seating location of all characters. The humorous Telepathy option shows you what your foes are thinking, while the Boss feature brings up a generic-looking productivity chart that probably won't fool even the dimmest managers. You'll find table talk both in the form of actual audio and thought bubbles, but these options can be disabled in the Preferences setting. It's also possible to tweak the game speed and the appearance of the card rooms. And if you ever get bored with the computerized opponents, you'll appreciate the option for playing an online game. We highly recommend this game to more experienced Spades players.
