Call of Duty 2 demo

Get this. Now.

Pros: Excellent, excellent game. variety of weapons without flipping unrealistically through eight or nine of them allows changeable arsenal. your teammates (and opponents) have more i. than a. in a.i., shoutting out usefule information on objectives and enemy positions. Graphics look wonderful on even mid-to-low-end cards. Most importantly, fun!

Cons: a little linear, and the checkpoint saves get annoying.

bottom line: if you like wwii shooters (or even shooters in general), you will love CoD 2.

Ground Control

Version: 1.0

Interesting. Unfortunately, not so great.

Pros: Fun for a while. It eliminates the farm-and-build mechanics employed by so many RTS games and has you make do with what you get at the beginning of the mission.

Cons: Finicky controls, weak graphics, and a pain in the ***** camera. as a casual strategy game it is fine, but it tries to emulate games like "command and conquer" and "starcraft" and fails.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War demo

/worship. Easily the best RTS available today.

Pros: This game has finally brought the Warhammer 40K universe to the PC after several big flops *cough*Fire Warrior*cough*. While it eliminates the need to harves resources, it pacifies "dirt farmers" bay forcing the player to watch his/her resources. More tactically-minded gamers enjoy the ability to gain resources by holding strategic objectives. The game also caters to tabletop fans (like me) by including an "Army painter" to customize your Space Marines.

This game has and excellent squad-based mechanic, and though you cannot micromanage your units, it isn't really necessary. The squad-damage system is odd, but realistic and forces battles to be fought on a scale similar to that of the tabletop game. An impressive show of "ragdoll physics" is present, but units conduct their fights realistically rather than enacting generic "hack and slash" anims. beautiful graphics, though a wee bit (read: very) gory.

Cons: capturing a strategic point (control and resource node) takes an entire squad out of the game for too long. the game forces the player to work with small forces in different areas rather than hordes of low-level units. pulling an entire, ranked-up squad out of the action to capture a location is a pain in the *****. The game also lacks the capacity to use drop pods to deploy units anywhere on the battlefield, so that you are effectively constructing from a building, with drop pods and dropships nothing but pretty stuff. but oh, wht pretty pretty stuff!

bottom line: Get this game. You won't be disappointed. "Inquisitor=][=woolymarmot" is watching.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (full install)

Excellent - you will become addicted.

Pros: Classic online experience, in an expertly-crafted WWII setting by Id Software and Splash Damage, masters in making games. Wide arsenal including waepons rarely included in other games (esp. flamethrower), and good teamwork-promoting mechanics. Wide user base, so there's always a game available. Public servers are some of the most respectful I've seen.

Cons: Dated graphics engine and a limited number of maps included. The graphics are to be expected, but they are still quite serviceable. More maps are readily available for download. The game's biggest problem: weak squad-based mechanics. While the game includes squads ("fire-teams") and allows chat within them, it does little to promot e their use or make being in one any benefit. The Batllefield franchise has implemented this more effectively, and if you like close-knit squad-level tactics, prepare to be disappointed. Fortunately, it is a great game that makes up for its shortcomings.

Warning Forever

Version: 1.4

Maybe i'm the only one, but I'm not really into this...

Pros: simple, quick, and mildly interesting. It sports shiny graphics that don't require processor power, and the controls are simple and easy to pick up.

Cons: This game includes nothing to differentiate it from all the other games out there. In trying to evoke the feeling of classic "arcade-y" games, it becomes too much like one of those games. It is only interesting for a while, and the large bosses take too long to reach and beat.

Bottom line: the game is worth dowloading and playing casually, but don't spend too many hours of your life playing it.
