Consistently backs up to DVD-Rs, simple, resource lite, good for small business.

Pros: I ran into a situation at a small business that wanted an unattended weekly backup of a share drive on a simple winXp network. Cost was a consideration and they did not want off-site network storage. So I set up Backup to DVD/CD to burn the approx. 1.2GB to a DVD every week. The files are just shared spreadsheets and docs, which only reached 1.2GB after 5 years, so exceeding the storage limit of a DVD-R was not a near term problem.

In conclusion, works great and easily automated with win task scheduler.

All they have to do is replace the DVD that pops out every week, and an employee takes it home for some level of off-site data security.

Good, easy solution for a small business on a budget,

and no IT staff to speak of.

Works fine with Pioneer DVR-1910LS

Cons: Burned some coasters at 16X and 12X, but that could simply be related to cheap media. Gets consistent burns at 10X. Takes over 20 minutes for 1.2GB at 10X, but just set it up to run after business hours.
